What is CAT Lab?
The Culture and Technology Lab (CAT Lab) is located within the School of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology and is lead by Assistant Professor Betsy DiSalvo. CAT Lab research focuses on understanding how culture impacts people’s practices with technology and designing new learning interventions with these understandings.
Culture influences what technology we chose to use, how we use it, and how it is produced. In learning contexts, individuals may make assumptions about what technology is, or is not, appropriate for them to engage with based upon cultural influences and the ways they hope to present themselves in their communities. We use these understandings of technical practices to improve science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) education.
