Maker Oriented Learning

Maker Oriented Learning
John Chandler and Aman Parnami
The CAT Lab Maker Oriented Learning projects seeks to understand how technology learning occurs in maker spaces. We are conducing interviews and observations at workshops that leverage maker kits such as the Lilypad Arduino and at cooperative and for-profit tech shops. Our goal is to better understand how the embodiment of computing helps fuel passion and understanding of computational thinking. We are applying our findings to formal classwork in the college of computing and in informal settings to help engage high school students. We are particularly interested in engaging low-income and underrepresented groups in computing with the making projects that are resonate with their community and culture.
